My Maskcara Story
Makeup. A woman’s friend or foe. If you know all of the tips and tricks for the perfect application, then it is definitely a friend. You have learned how to accentuate your features with ease and the results are flawless. Congratulations! Then there are the rest of us. The makeup challenged population. Winged eyeliner? Yeah…what cruel person invented that as an everyday look?
Have you shopped at Ulta or Sephora? You walk in the door and there are isles and isles of different brands of makeup all created for specific and many different reason. Visualize me walking into Ulta and standing there, eyes wide, having no clue where to even begin. Then an employee asks if I need help. Ha! It is quite obvious I am not a regular. I point to my face and say, “Pick a feature and let’s start there.” My makeup routine has always consisted of using makeup that was on sale and I had a coupon for. Then apply and go on my way.
You Tube videos…you can learn anything on You Tube. Yeah….I only end up looking like the Joker or like I am ready to go trick or treating.
New Year, New Me!
In January, I decided this would be the year to learn new things, pamper myself and push myself outside of my comfort zone. The pamper part sounded great, the other two I knew were going to be a challenge for me. Something beauty related was one area I wanted to commit to. I mean, better late than never, right? I started the year with baby steps. I joined a Facebook beauty group and watched more You Tube tutorials. I was surprised to have some success and I was even trying new things.
I have since created my own Facebook beauty group. It is fairly new and I would love it if you joined us to help build a community of women helping other women. Click HERE to join.
In February, I saw a post on a local Facebook page by a Maskcara artist. She said she was a new artist and she was looking for women to do makeovers on to build her portfolio. She was needing Before and After pictures. I was intrigued and thought about volunteering…but didn’t do it. Why bother? She obviously knows what she is doing and there is no way I would be able to get the same look at home.
A couple of weeks later, I saw her post again and thought maybe this was something worth looking in to. It goes with my theme for the year, so why not?
I searched the Maskcara Website to get more information, but it was closed to new artists at the time. I then searched You Tube and found some of Cara’s videos and watched them. Hmm…this HAC (Highlight and Contour) thing seemed like something even I could do. If I could do it, then anybody could do it. But…I still didn’t order the makeup.
Shortly after I started my quest to learn more, Melea Johnson from The Melea Show, said she signed up as an artist and was in love with the makeup. Okay, time to take action and just do it! I decided to join under Melea. She is a huge resource for social media and I knew I would have complete access to her, as well as many other marketing and business gurus!!!
Yes, I signed up without even trying the makeup! I wanted to put it to the test. Remember, no makeup skill here whatsoever!! My Artist Pro Kit arrived and I was in love with the packaging alone! It was like makeup Christmas!
Time to get my Maskcara on!
I was so excited to try it out and couldn’t wait for the moment of this new cream foundation to touch my face. My new 30 Sec HAC Brush was beautiful and I was in love. There were different shades of Highlight and Contour to choose from. I had no idea which ones were my shades. Melea to the rescue. I sent her a picture of myself with no makeup on facing a window and she color matched me quickly. To get your personal color match, go HERE.
Highlight – Aura
Contour – Walnut
Cheek + Lip – Pink Grapefruit
Illuminator – Pearl
Skin care and Maskcara
I had learned in researching the company, and from Melea, that this product works best when you have a proper skin care routine. If you don’t have a good skin care routine yet, this is a great time to start. Fortunately, this was an area I have always made a priority. I did a quick skin care prep session before I began. I did as follows:
- I used my [eafl id=”447″ name=”Tinkle Razor” text=”Tinkle Razor”] and removed all the baby hairs on my face. If you don’t know what a Tinkle Razor is, go to my post HERE.
- I exfoliated really well using [eafl id=”450″ name=”CURE” text=”CURE Natural Aqua Gel”]. I alternate between this and [eafl id=”451″ name=”Dr Brandt” text=”Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion”].
- I moisturized using the Maskcara MILK. I applied and waited about 30 minutes.
- I used the Maskcara STAY Setting Spray as my primer and waited a couple of minutes for it to dry.
Now to the moment I had been waiting for.
I had never used a cream foundation before so I knew this was going to be a new experience. I did the application as instructed and it looked okay. For the first few days I really struggled with the application. The Maskcara Brushes and Perfector Beauty Blender did help a lot because they were designed specifically for the cream foundation, but I still was not getting the results I wanted and hoped for.
I began troubleshooting like crazy because I was determined to make it work. Melea provided great support and did a Zoom call with me and watched me apply the makeup. Problem solved. I was using too much! This makeup definitely follows the saying ‘Less is More’.
I tried again with LESS Highlight and VOILA! I was rockin’ the Maskcara IIID Foundation!! AND my face glowed for the first time in like…FOREVER!!! Glowed Ladies!! This makeup was created for the expert and the novice woman. I am about as novice as they come, so believe me when I say, If I can do it, anyone can do it.
The packaging and functionality of this product allows you do a full HAC (Highlight and Contoured) face in under 10 minutes. If you are a busy mom, or are a woman who is always on the go, this product was made for you! Simply insert your 4 shade tins into a compact, grab your brush and you are set to apply your makeup anywhere.
I LOVE sharing this product with anyone and everyone I meet. I mean, what kind of a friend would I be if I kept this a secret?
